Since its founding 100 years ago, the Bates Outing Club has connected hundreds of people to the college in a unique way. This year’s 100th anniversary of the Bates Outing Club will allow us to celebrate students connecting to the great outdoors and ensure that all can enjoy club activities and feel as though they are members — and someday even leaders — of the organization.
In honor of the Club’s 100th anniversary, we’ve established the Bates Outing Club Centennial Fund. The Fund, and the initiatives it supports, will ensure that the club endures for the next 100 years and that its activities are always accessible to everyone at Bates. The Fund will be used to make it easier for students who are new to outdoor experiences to participate more fully in the club’s activities. These include:
- Inclusive and accessible outdoor programming and recreational activities
- Certifications for students, including rock climbing, paddling, and wilderness first aid
- Training and development with a path to trip leadership - making it more approachable to newcomers
- Providing equipment to reduce the financial investment required to participate
- Offering entry-level trips that appeal to all levels and broad interests
